Welcome to the Acquisitions and Library Collection Services page!
We are responsible for ordering, receiving, and paying for all books. We build part of the Library Collection through a liaison program, which includes subject bibliographers guided by the Collection Development Policy reflecting changes in the curriculum. Please feel free to contact us for further information if you are interested in joining this program. Students, faculty, and staff are also encouraged to submit title requests. Title requests can be submitted via email, web form, or library catalogues.
Objectives and principles
The library's collection policy guides the acquisition and management of collections. It is developed with a user-oriented approach to meet the needs of the KU community, providing materials necessary for teaching, studying, and research and development activities.
Book Donations:
We appreciate all the gifts we receive. However, per our gift policy, librarians decide which donated materials are added to the library's collection. The library may accept book donations based on its policy and has the right to decide how donated materials are used and whether they are included in the collections.
Validity of the collection policy
The collection policy is valid until further notice and is revised as necessary. If you are interested in learning more about Acquisitions and Collection Development Services, please visit the department's Policy, Procedures, and Guides. Collections Development Policy and Procedures:

We're here to help!
Welcome to Khalifa University Libraries, where we value your input to enhance our collection and support the academic and research needs of the KU community. Below are the guidelines for requesting books:
The Faculty Liaisons Program designates department representatives to oversee book acquisitions in their respective colleges. These individuals are responsible for recommending books that can enrich the library's collection and support the academic and research requirements of their departments. To streamline this process, the library welcomes book recommendations from faculty liaisons, who can provide insights into their department's subject areas, research focuses, and new initiatives. Recommendations can be submitted via email, an online form, the library catalogue, or the weekly GOBI new titles notifications, which are delivered via email.
GOBI (Global Online Bibliographic Information) is an academic book vendor that delivers tailored lists of recently published books across various disciplines and interest areas, primarily categorized according to the Library of Congress call number ranges. Notification alerts pertaining to these lists are forwarded to faculty liaisons through GOBI. Should you be a faculty member interested in evaluating and selecting new titles in your field, kindly contact the Acquisitions department to establish your profile in GOBI.
1.Monitor incoming emails with the subject line " GOBI Notification: 2024 [subject] Books - ## items for period ##/##/2024 - ##/##/2024 acquisitions@ku.ac.ae". From “DoNotReply@Ybp.com” so make sure it is whitelisted.
2.Access the provided link in the email to view a list of titles within your discipline.
Indicate your selection by clicking on the “‘white vertical bar“ located on the left of the bibliographic record until it turns dark blue.
Click the "Recommend" option in the left-hand menu to add your selected items to the selection cart for retrieval.
When you recommend titles, you will observe "Title Recommended" at the top of the record, confirming your selections.
Optionally, in the Library Note field at the bottom of each record, you can click on "Add" to include a note, such as a request for notification upon availability or specific charging account details.
After requesting an e-book from E-book Central and being approved for purchasing, you will receive a notification from the library that access is ready, and you can find it in the library catalogue. Also, when searching the library catalogue for an e-book provided by E-book Central (Ebook Central Perpetual, DDA and Subscription Titles) , you can follow the steps below to access or download the PDF or a specific number of pages. It's important to note that the download options and restrictions vary from one publisher to another, and you can find this information in the "availability" section on the E-book Central book page.

Hey there!
If you're thinking about donating materials to the KU Library, we'd love to provide some guidelines. We carefully consider all donations at the library, but please note that donated books are not guaranteed to be housed, retained, or displayed. Our selection and weeding principles apply to gifts in the same way as they apply to purchases.
We're looking for new or gently used hardcovers and quality paperback books that are in good condition. However, we can't accept magazines or newspapers, Reader's Digest or condensed books, mass-market paperbacks, advertisements, flyers, pamphlets, postcards, or promotional material. Also, older textbooks, materials with highlighting or handwriting, or damaged materials won't make the cut. We steer clear of titles associated with censorship and, unfortunately, cannot accept books from individuals outside of our KU.
If you're planning to make a large donation, please provide a list of the items. This is particularly important for bulk donations (more than a box). You can email the list or description of the items to acquisitions@ku.ac.ae. Once the items are approved, you can coordinate with Acquisitions to drop them off at the library during regular working hours. Keep in mind that unselected books won't be returned.
Feel free to use the QR code to share all the information about your book donation easily.
We appreciate your generosity and support!
