IEEE style guide: Journal Articles

A guide to IEEE referencing style for Khalifa University students and staff

Details

This information relates to journal articles from print sources.

For journal articles from electronic sources, please see E-journals.

Arrange information about the source in the format given.

Only the author's initials are given, regardless of the presentation of the author's name on the journal article.

The given name may be cited in full to identify the author when different authors have the same surname and initials.

Capitalisation practice also should be consistent.

Only the first word of the article title and proper nouns are capitalised.

Journal titles and sub-titles are given maximal capitalisation.

Journal titles and volume numbers are italicised when typed or underlined when handwritten. The issue number is never italicised.

If, and only if, each issue of a journal begins on page 1, give the issue number in parentheses immediately after the volume number.

Format

Standard format for citation

Article Author, A. A., & Article Author, B. B. (Year). Title of article. Title of Journal, volume number (issue number if necessary), inclusive page numbers.
