Guide for requesting books

Please read the below before suggesting a print book or ebook.

Guide for requesting books (Book Acquisitions)

The Khalifa University Libraries welcome your suggestions about materials that will enhance our library collection and support the curricular and research needs of the KU community.

► You can suggest library materials to be reviewed and considered at any time, and subject to funds, they will be purchased.

► You can request books by filling out the online book order form or email acquisitions the book's information.

► Please fill in as many details as possible like author, title, publisher, pub date, and ISBN. The information is essential for the quick identification and acquisition of materials. In addition, you can search the library's online catalog to check if the library already owns the needed book.

► If you suggest library materials that will become a permanent part of the library collection, please send them to acquisitions@ku.ac.ae. If you would like to request a journal article, book, or other materials required for short-term use, please send it to ill@ku.ac.ae.

► The library does not generally collect textbooks or multiple copies of titles. However, if you would like a textbook purchased for your class, please email materialmanagement@ku.ac.ae.

► The expensive, duplicated copy (Maximum are two copies in all branches), and other languages than English or Arabic will need a justification from the requester and why another title can't alternate it. Expensive material for single/exclusive use will not be purchased using the library budget. (check if you can use the departmental budget or the research funds)

► The book request from the undergraduate student will need justification and faculty approval.

► The library does not generally purchase Kindle Edition or ebooks associated with a single account. And prevent the single-use download order through a single source and keep the single-use access or paperback order.  The accessibility and discovery by all library users through the library catalog should be considered to help us utilize the content we provide.

► The library has a digital-first policy. Therefore, if a book is available to purchase as an ebook with unlimited user access, it will be purchased wherever possible. This is to ensure maximum access to materials.

► Our book vendors take time to fulfill an order for a print book, so please allow plenty of time. We will appreciate submitting the books requests for the new programs or specific needs or class references early and before the semester. eBooks can be made available much more quickly.

We appreciate your support and look forward to our collaboration. Please feel free to contact me for additional information.
