KU Medical Library Orientation

This guide will help you get started using medical resources in the KU Library.

Clinical Resources at the KU Library

As you start to study and work more in clinical settings you will find the library's clinical resources useful. Some students also find them useful for studying and they often include detailed citations that are helpful when conducting research, but they are most often used when working directly with a patient. Some of these include:

UpToDate

UpToDate Anywhere is the most popular of the clinical tools, and it is well-liked by working medical professionals. Many students like to use it as a learning tool, too. There are some things to keep in mind when using it:

  • It has an app that you can install on Android and Apple devices. This makes using UpToDate much easier, as you do not need to log in each time you use it. You will first need to create an account in the desktop version of UpToDate, then download the app, and then log in using the credentials you created in the desktop version. Please note, that you will need to log into your desktop account within every 90 days to keep this active.
  • If you have an UpToDate account and are signed in you will accumulate continuing medical education (CME) credits. These credits are tracked as you view articles within UpToDate. You will see you current credits in the upper right of the interface.
  • UpToDate is kept current based on the medical literature. These citations are included in each entry and can help guide on research topics.
