Publishing in an Open Access journal with Elsevier does not affect the basics of the publication process. An authors must still submit their paper to a journal and it must still be accepted and pass editing and peer review. The difference comes when the article is submitted for publication. There are two variations with Open Access journals. One is for journals that use the pure Gold OA model (i.e. all articles within the journal use the OA access model). The others use the Hybrid model. In these journals, some articles are Open Access and some are closed access, at the author's choice.
IMPORTANT NOTE: In order for the library's Open Access Services to be able to pay the APC for an article, Elsevier requires that the corresponding author be affiliated with KU. This is the publisher's absolute requirement, and we cannot waive it or change it. If your article has a corresponding author from a different university, then either that university or the paper's authors would have to pay the APC.
